Fall brings a lot of excitement as the holidays become clearer into focus and cozy movie nights and tall boots become weather appropriate. But as we adjust to the new season, so does our skin!
You might not even think about it, but our skin reacts to new temperature changes, too. For example, it’s easier to keep the skin plump and hydrated in the summer when it’s more humid. But in the cooler months, when the air starts to lose moisture—so does your skin. So, to help transition your skin into fall, here are a few ways to adjust your skincare routine for the season:
Switch to a thicker night moisturizer.
As I mentioned before, fall weather means drier air, which means dry skin. And who wants that? Fight off irritation and sensitivity by opting for a thicker moisturizer applied before bed. Adding more moisture will help your skin compensate for the change of season and lock in more water into your skin!
Exfoliate less.
Buffing away dead skin and texture feels and looks great, but exfoliation could irritate the skin in the fall. Without the humidity in the air to subdue some of the more harsh effects of exfoliation, it’s best not to exfoliate as frequently.
Don’t stop wearing sunscreen.
If you thought you would get off the hook because it’s colder outside, think again. You need SPF protection all year round because UV radiation is present during all four seasons!
Get a humidifier.
Do you work from home? Then add some moisture into your air with a humidifier! Fall weather zaps the hydration out of our homes, too, so give your skin an extra boost of hydrating with a handy humidifier.
