When you’re a busy mom, sometimes making it to the gym is simply out of the question. Or maybe you’re like me, and the gym is the last place you want to be even when you have the time! Either way, I can certainly relate to the feeling, and the reality is, you can absolutely get a workout in without going to the gym.
The gym is probably the first thing that comes to mind with you think about working out, but there are so many ways to get exercise outside those four walls! So if you’re looking for creative ways to sneak a workout in, or if you’re just tired of going to the gym, keep reading. Here are four gym-free ways to get your body moving:
Gym-free Workout #1: Hikes
If being in nature gets you in your zone, then go on a hike! A nature trail is about as far away as you can get from a gym, and with a quick Google search you can easily one the nearest trail to you, and be on your way. Plus, to your benefit, trails are marked by distance and intensity. So pick the trail best for you, and enjoy some me-time in the great outdoors!
Gym-free Workout #2: Swimming
Swimming is the ultimate gym-free workout. The movement utilizes all muscles in your body, which makes swimming one of the best full-body workouts. Swimming is not only great for your health, but it’s incredibly relaxing. And if you’re struggling to find time to work out due to your kids, bring them along for a swim too!
Gym-free Workout #3: Yoga
I am a huge yoga fan! Not only is yoga an excellent form of exercise, but it’s a great way to practice mindfulness. So if both your mind and body need a tune-up, yoga is the way to go. Opt for a vinyasa flow to kick up the intensity or keep things light with restorative flows.
Gym-free Workout #4: Bicycling
Calling all cardio lovers! Peloton bikes might be all the rave right now, but nothing compares to the real thing. So hop on a bike, explore your neighborhood, a nearby bike, or see the city if you live in a bike-friendly town. Biking is great for your legs and your cardiovascular health, so make it into a family affair if you can!
